Alaska part 7
The hunt for monster salmon goes on, and we’re moored off a town called Bella Bella. We went ashore in the next town called Sheerwater. It was there I met my first native Canadians, or Ist natives of Canada or something like that….not Indians. I tried to imagine what it was like when they were the only folk here. Living on the coast and eating Salmon everyday without the white folk coming in and cocking things up.
We fished with a native guy and his family, great people who couldn’t be more helpful to us struggling limey fishermen…sorry fisherpeople! Despite their help we caught bugger all and they caught loads. You can’t beat thousands of years experience. I’ve always maintained that all the gear in the world won’t help you catch fish, if you don’t have the knowhow
Ian and Jan, our friends from Dubai have joined us and we are sailing south towards Vancouver. The scenery is fantastic. There must be enough wood in Canada to make everybody in the world a coffee table!
I saw on the news in a bar that Senator Kennedy has died. What a family, they were like an American royal family. Have you seen the film 13 days, it’s about when the Russians put some nukes on Cuba. Great movie. Have any of you seen Colour me Kubrick? The movie I did with John Malkovic? I’ll try and get hold of some to flog at the gigs. I play a gay bloke……and enjoyed it!
My Team Charlton is doing well. Top of the division, albeit the first division. I hope they go up. They are playing really well and hopefully the Vally crowd will be a little happier.
The boat is moored again in a pretty inlet and Steve and I set off in search of the Salmon. I’m getting used to casting now and I caught a beauty 10lb or so, on the fly!!
Still going south.
Ian and Jan are great fun.
Ian has been bitten by nasty flies. They never bite me, the last one that did is still pissed!
Mr Fog has descended this morning so it’s slow going down and navigating by radar.
I’ve not used my mobile now for days. It’s weird, and at the same time kind of refreshing. What do we do without mobiles? I’m not good on the phone and apparently have a nasty habit of hanging up without saying goodbye. Well, I think you should phone somebody to tell them something or because you want to hear a specific thing or news, not just for a natter. Nothing is more annoying than being in the middle of something, or someone, and the bloody phone rings. You have to stop doing what you’re doing and listen to someone saying not much.
Txting’s worse. It’s a girl thing isn’t it? The speed they can move that thumb is staggering and can do it all day long. What the fuck do they talk about?
Speak soon ……………. Come on you Reds!!

Hi Jim, sounds as though you’re having a good time out there. The weather here in Glasgow is still wet!! I must be the only female on the planet who doesn’t own a mobile phone. I can’t stand them. I remember, on a train having the details of someone’s entire life bawled into my ear because some users can’t talk without shouting. My daughter tried to show me how to text once – I would have found communicating a lot faster using a carrier pigeon.Anyway, carry on enjoying your break out there, it does sound a beautiful part of the world. Look forward to your next blog. Take care, Tracey x
